Last week, I visited Milan Design Week, which I very much look forward to each year. This is where trends are born, shown to the public and embraced. It is wonderful that colour is a fundamental part of interiors, besides design, fabrics and patterns.
This time once again, our eyes were pampered with beautiful colours and colour combinations. Because it is precisely the mix of shades that provides the surprise! Shades are making a comeback in every hue and degree of saturation. The whole palette is there, but how the colours are set off against each other is very special.
This time, the strength lies in bringing together various colour types and contrasting them: soft, powdery pastels with super vivid accents. Or deep traditional colours with a striking and sometimes even disconcerting addition of colour. This gives traditional interiors a boost, while fresh designs are pleasingly softened.
Think of deep, dark night-blue shades in combination with a soft brick colour. Or a 'dark' olive colour with a very soft pink. Ochre yellows are seen a lot, often in combination with fresh greens. But you can't throw just any colours together! Either there is a connection in the combination of colours, or that cohesion is just completely missing! This component allows tremendous scope to mix together your own beautiful colours and to discover the power of colours!
